Marina Silva (1958) is an indigenous, environmentalist and Brazilian politician. As a senator, she fought for the protection of reserves, social justice and the Amazon’s sustainable development. As the Minister of the Environment, she undertook measures to protect the Amazon and managed to reduce deforestation by 60% in just three years. Marina Silva has an important presence within the trade union movement and is an active advocate of organized and peaceful resistance as a method to fight against the environmental destruction of large corporations.
